Gunmen Assassinate Commander Nigeria Hunters In Benue

Unknown gunmen suspected to be hired killers, have assassinated  the commander of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Services (NHFSS), Aondoakaa Yaiyol in Benue State.

The incidence happened at Wannune market on Friday, June 20, 2025 about 6:30pm in Tarka Local Government Area (LGA) of the State, 

The network gathered that Yaiyol, was a one time Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Tarka LGA, home town of the SGF, Senator George Akume.

It was further gathered that the wife of the commander was also killed last year during a similar attempt to murder him.

Sources said his death killing has spread fear among residents who are currently wondering whether the assassins would return again.

The Special Adviser to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har (PSP) confirmed the incident to newsmen on phone in Makurdi, on Saturday.

Har said the local government chairman and members of the NHFSS in Tarka confirmed to him that the assassins came on a bike and shot their victim at close quarters and fled immediately.

He said “It was an assassination of commander of the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Services NHFSS, Aondoakaa Yaiyol.

“They came on a bike and shot him at close quarters and fled. After they shot the guy, they fired sporadically to scare others and then fled on a bike and they were shielded by two cars also firing sporadically to scare away people.

He noted that “Sketchy investigation shows that a criminal that attacked and killed the deceased wife and burnt the house was sent to prison. 

“On his return both of them are chasing each other until this happened.”

The People Democratic Party PDP in Benue state has also confirmed the incident. 

The State Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor confirmed the assassination to be true saying his wife was murdered last year.
