Reps speaker, Abbas speaks on fake news, engages youths on nation building

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen at the weekend vowed to engage in open dialogue with Nigerian youths on governance, innovation, technology, communication, and nation-building.
Abbas who made this known on Sunday, announced his preparedness to engage directly with the young Nigerian youths at the first-ever Speaker’s New Media Exchange 2025-live on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.
He stated that this initiative is aimed at connecting leadership with the energy and creativity of the Nigerian Youths.
The statement reads in part: “It’s a platform designed to foster open dialogue on governance, innovation, technology, communication, and nation-building.
“At the National Assembly, a select group representing diverse gender, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds will participate in a live mock legislative process, where we will demystify how laws are made and debated.
The speaker, Abbas noted further that the theme of the engagement is; “Smart Cities and Ethical Media: Navigating the Role of Policy in National Development,” stressing that the event will feature critical conversations like:
“Legislating for Digital Responsibility: Curbing Fake News and Promoting Patriotism in the Social Media Era Smart Cities, Thriving Athletes: How Policy Shapes Infrastructure and Sports Development
“Through interactive breakout sessions, young Nigerians will have the rare chance to collaborate directly with members of the House of Representatives – including presenting a mock bill and experiencing lawmaking firsthand.
“This is more than just an event – it’s a movement to promote transparency, responsible communication, digital innovation, and youth empowerment.
“I believe that by listening to each other, we can build policies that truly reflect the aspirations of our people” he stated.
