NYSC launches campaign against cholera, diabetes, other diseases in Bauchi

The National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) has launched campaign against malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhea, cholera, and diabetes, among others in three Bauchi communities. 

The three communities include; Zalanga, Gagira and Kampannin kutare areas of Ganjuwa local government area of the state.

The state NYSC coordinator Mrs. Rifkatu Yakubu, said the outreach was initiated under the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural dwellers (HIRD) and that it was designed to enhance access to quality healthcare service delivery in hard-to-reach and rural communities across the country.

Yakubu said that the outreach was open to more than 500 members of the community and added that some of the ailments to be attended to, free of charge, included malaria, typhoid, hypertension, diarrhea, cholera, and diabetes, among others.

“Any other ailment that could not be handled by the Corps’ Medical Volunteers would be referred to a more competent hospital for treatment”

“This exercise is aimed at giving medical assistance and free drugs to the less-privileged in the community.

“Let me use this opportunity to appeal to religious and community leaders to continue to support the NYSC in its efforts to complement the federal government’s efforts at enhancing health care delivery across the country. 

“We urge all members of this community to avail themselves in order to benefit”, Yakubu said.

The village head of the community, Alhaji Yusuf Mohammed who spoke on behalf of the Communities expressed their appreciation to the NYSC for bringing the program of free medical outreach to their areas.

Mohammed said that the outreach would significantly address the health challenges of the people.

He further said the intervention would also go a long way in assisting the people from villages in the area in accessing healthcare services to which they may not have had access.

“The entire people of the communities are eternally grateful to the scheme for this kind gesture and I would like to call on the members of the community to come out so as to benefit from this exercise” he stated
