The Niger State Government has reaffirmed its resolve to restore lasting peace in Shiroro Local Government Area, following a series of coordinated security operations that led to the neutralization of no fewer than 110 suspected bandits across affected communities.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Nuhu Nana, disclosed this in an official statement, noting that the successes were recorded through sustained joint operations involving the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilante groups.

According to security sources, the bandits were neutralised in multiple locations as they retreated under sustained pressure from advancing troops.

A breakdown of the figures shows that 47 were eliminated in Lantan Village (Erena Ward), 21 in Lakupe (Kwaki Ward), 16 in Luwidna (Kwaki Ward), and 20 in Farin Kasa (Allawa Ward), with additional casualties recorded in Rafin Barden Dawaki (Kurebe Ward).

The government described the outcome as a significant stride in ongoing clearance operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring normalcy to troubled communities.

“These results underscore the resilience, coordination, and growing effectiveness of our security architecture in confronting banditry and related crimes,” the statement noted.

Despite the gains, the government expressed profound sorrow over the casualties recorded during the operations.

Fourteen members of the vigilante group, including the commander in Bagna, lost their lives, alongside two civilians, one of them a woman.

Nana conveyed the state government’s condolences to the bereaved families, paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who died in the line of duty.

“As we press forward, we remain mindful of the sacrifices made by our gallant security personnel and community defenders. Their bravery will not be forgotten,” he said.

Residents of Shiroro and surrounding areas have been urged to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement in high-risk zones, and cooperate fully with security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence.

The government further assured citizens that additional reinforcements and strategic measures have been deployed to consolidate the gains recorded and prevent further incursions.

Emphasising that the situation is under close watch, Nana called for calm, unity, and sustained public support, stressing that collective responsibility remains key to achieving enduring peace in Shiroro and across Niger State.
