LG Poll: Ebonyi Commissioner, Lawmaker Mobilize Women for APC Candidates
By Uchenna Okeh, Abakaliki
The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Human Capital Development, Mrs Ann Igwe, and the lawmaker representing Ebonyi North-East Constituency, Hon. Chinyere Nwogbaga, have urged women across the state to vote massively for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming local government election.
The two political leaders made the call while addressing journalists shortly after the annual August meeting of the Nkaleke Ozibo Ubala Women held at Nnodo Secondary School, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
The local government election, scheduled to hold across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state in August 2026, formed part of the discussions at the meeting, with the women urged to actively participate in the electoral process.

Mrs Igwe, who spoke on the significance of the annual gathering, said the meeting was organised every year to bring members together, adding that this year’s meeting coincided with the ongoing electoral activities in the state.
According to her, she had earlier addressed the women and encouraged them to come out en masse on election day to vote for APC candidates, particularly the party’s chairmanship and councillor candidates in their respective local government areas.
The commissioner, who noted that most of the women at the meeting were from Ebonyi Local Government Area, urged them to also mobilize their fellow women, friends and associates in other local government areas to participate actively in the election and support the APC.
She said the call was necessary to ensure continuity of the administration’s development programmes, stressing that the women had an important role to play in determining the leadership of their respective councils.
Beyond politics, Mrs Igwe disclosed that the meeting also featured health-related activities, including medical checks for the women.
She said health workers examined participants and checked vital health indicators, including blood sugar levels, to enable them know their health status.
She explained that the annual meeting was designed not only to address political and social issues but also to equip women with practical knowledge on healthcare, childcare, personal hygiene and maintaining healthy homes.
The commissioner further said the women were taught how to take proper care of their children, maintain personal cleanliness and keep their homes hygienic, describing such knowledge as important to the wellbeing of families and communities.
Also speaking, Chinyere Nwogbaga urged the women to vote for APC candidates in the local government election, saying their support would contribute to continuity and further development across the state.

Nwogbaga particularly appealed to the women to support APC candidates in Ebonyi Local Government Area, while also urging them to sustain their support for Governor Francis Nwifuru ahead of the 2027 general election.
She maintained that women remained a critical constituency in the political development of the state and called on them to participate fully in the electoral process by exercising their franchise peacefully and responsibly.
The lawmakers’ appeal comes as political parties and their candidates intensify mobilisation ahead of the local government election, with voters expected to determine the leadership of the various councils across Ebonyi State.
