June 12: Omeri Urges Nigerians to Defend Democracy, Reject Electoral Fraud
From Abel Zwanke, Lafia
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Nasarawa South in the 2027 general elections, Mike Omeri Agbo, has called on Nigerians to remain committed to defending democracy and rejecting electoral fraud as the country marks Democracy Day.
In a statement to mark the occasion on Friday, the former Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) urged citizens to uphold justice, fairness, accountability, and respect for the people’s mandate, describing June 12 as a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

The PDP Candidate for Nasarawa South senatorial seat further said the date serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by democratic heroes and the need to protect electoral integrity and constitutional governance.
Omeri cautioned against electoral malpractice, voter intimidation, and result manipulation, insisting that democracy can only thrive where the will of the people is respected.
“Every vote must count, and the will of the people must prevail,” he said, while urging Nigerians to remain vigilant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP chieftain also commended stakeholders across party structures for their commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and promoting national unity.
He stressed the need for issue-based campaigns, warning against political violence and divisive rhetoric as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
Speaking on his public service record, Omeri said he had facilitated employment opportunities and supported initiatives in healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and humanitarian assistance across Nasarawa State.

He pledged continued commitment to youth empowerment, job creation, agricultural development, and improved infrastructure, noting that “the overall interest of my people remains my focus.”
He urged Nigerians to prioritize competence, character, and performance in choosing leaders, expressing optimism that the country’s democracy would continue to strengthen through active citizen participation and accountability.
