Insecurity: Herders Invade Benue Community, Kill 13, raze Houses

Suspected herdsmen militia have reportedly killed 13 people and destroyed several houses after they invaded Olegomachi community in Agatu Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue state.
The Nations News Nigeria learnt that the herdsmen while carrying out the attack, burnt houses and looted their properties as they moved.
A reliable source from the community who didn’t want to be named for fear of victimization, told newsmen in Makurdi that “Yesterday, July 9, 2024, Fulani herdsmen attacked Olegomachi community of Agatu LGA and killed 13 people.”
Responding, the Caretaker Chairman of Agatu Council, Phillip Ebenyakwu, confirmed the attack.
Ebenyakwu who spoke on phone on Wednesday said “Yes, it’s confirmed. There was an attack. It happened yesterday evening. The number they gave me was 10 people killed.
“They were armed with sophisticated weapons, they were looting, robbing and burning houses. And they killed people.
“About seven houses were burnt down, they carried so many properties. Animals including goats and chickens were also carted away.
“It has been reported to the police. The DSS is aware too. I’m trying to ensure that security men visit the place. Arrangement is being made for them to visit the place,” he said.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Catherine Anene said she was yet to get the report from Agatu.
