The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Ebonyi State University, EBSU chapter, Prof. Ikechukwu Igwenyi has described some of the polices of the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as inhuman.

Prof. Igwenyi who made this known while speaking with newsmen in Abakaliki, said that the polices has resulted to high level of sufferings and economic hardship on the citizens, especially on the lecturers who according to him, cannot pay house rent, talk more of fueling their cars, with the old salaries.

According to him: “The polices, especially the hike in fuel prices, inflation that has hit a thousand percent increase and unfortunately, everything in Nigeria has increased except the salaries of the lectures.

“From ASUU perceptive, we are still paid with the salary structures we have since 2009. That’s where we are, and so, you can imagine that lecturers can not even pay house rent, he cannot buy bag of rice and fuel his/her car.

“The policy is hard on us. We have come to support NLC on what they have done, to make a statement and tell Nigerians that we should come out and say no to all these policies, that are not human, especially where a civil servant is paid a minimum wage of #30,000, and a bag of rice is #30,000. And there are other issues; the children school fees, house rent, health issues, social bills and so, how can we strive?

“We can not go to work anymore. We want to support NLC, and say no this things. We want government to hear this. And reverses it’s resolution to make sure that we have policies that are fair to the Nigerian people.

“That will help us to afford our basic needs. And that’s what we are all asking for” he stated.
