Gov Bago mourns victims of tanker explosion

……warns against fuel scooping in Niger

Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion that occurred in Essa community, Katcha Local Government Area, claiming several lives and leaving many others injured.
Describing the incident as “worrisome, unfortunate, and deeply painful,” Governor Bago said it was yet another heartbreaking tragedy that the state would not easily forget.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Essa community and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives.
He also wished the injured a speedy recovery, but expressed regret at the avoidable death of innocent citizens.
Governor Bago used the occasion to caution residents against the dangerous practice of scooping fuel from fallen tankers, stressing that such actions often result in fatal consequences.
The Governor urged citizens to value their lives, regardless of economic hardship.
According to the the Governor, the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) should be commended for its swift response to the incident and assured that the state government, through relevant ministries and agencies, would provide necessary support to the victims and their families.
The explosion reportedly occurred when residents attempted to scoop fuel from a fallen tanker in Essa community.
The incident led to 35 fatalities and 40 injuries, with the wounded evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, for treatment.
