Gov Bago dissolves Universal basic education board amidst corruption allegations
By Daniel Ebi, Minna.
Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State, has approved the immediate dissolution of the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB)
The Governor also ordered the sacking of the office of the Secretary to the Board.
Bago in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, said the decision was described as part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition and strengthen the education sector.
The statement noted that, it is aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability and improved service delivery.
The statement further directed all members of the dissolved Board, including the Secretary, to hand over all official documents, assets and responsibilities of the Board to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

Governor Bago expressed appreciation to the outgoing Board members and the Secretary for their service and contributions to the growth and development of basic education in the State and wished them success in their future endeavors.
However, observers are quick to note that, the dissolution may not be unconnected with the allegations of large scale corruption reported in the commission in recent months.
