An Engineering expert, Joan Nweke has disclosed that the focus of infrastructural development in the continent must be designing solutions that will empower communities, safeguard environment and enhance economic activities in the society.
She made the assertion while being featured at the Continental Dialogue on Sustainable Infrastructure and Urban Development in African Engineering Conference during the 11th Africa Engineering Week and 9th African Engineering Conference held in Uganda,
Kampala recently.
Nweke who is an advocate for women engineers, revealed that the spotlight of the event was on Africa’s future infrastructure and urban development.
She emphasized that Africa must design solutions rooted in its realities—solutions that empower communities, safeguard the environment, and fuel economic progress.
During the Panel Discussion, Nweke stressed the urgency of building infrastructure systems that are not only modern and efficient but also tailored towards sustainable, resilient, and inclusive.
“Africa’s development demands infrastructure and urban systems that can withstand climate shocks, serve its people equitably, and support long-term prosperity.
“This requires innovation, collaboration, and visionary leadership,” Nweke said.
