Ex-River’s Police Commissioner decries healthcare neglect in Elele Alimini Community

The former Commissioner of Police and currently the Paramount Ruler of Elele Alimini community, HRH Eze, Peter Wagbara has decried neglect in critical areas such as healthcare and development in the community.

He urged the Rivers State Government to come to their aid in the local government.

The former police commissioner made the appeal during the 2026 Commonwealth Day celebration organized by the Young Youth Network for Good Leadership in Nigeria (YYNGLN) in partnership with the Palace of the Nye Nwe Ali of Elele Alimini community.

Speaking at the event, the President of the Young Youth Network for Good Leadership in Nigeria, Ambassador Collins Agumagu, commended the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for the roles they played in ensuring peace in the state.

He further urged the Rivers State Government to formally acknowledge the Elele Alimini traditional stool of CP Peter Wagbara (Rtd) as the Nye Nwe Ali Elele Alimini. Agumagu affirmed that the Elele Alimini community had chosen Wagbara as their traditional leader through a democratic process and called on the governor to respect the will of the people.

Among the dignitaries present at the event were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, represented by the Director of Administration, Dr. Oyoboy Edman; the Head of Media and Publicity of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Mrs Hope Sarah Amgbara; the Executive Director of Pathway for Peace and Development, Mrs. Rita Kiagbara;

Others are Chief of Staff to Chairman Emohua Local Government Area, PADU Integrated Services Nigeria Limited and Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria (PINL) Barr. Peter Ugari; members of the Elele Alimini Council of Chiefs; executives of the Elele Alimini Community Development Committee;

executives of the National Union of Elele Alimini Students; school prefects from Community Secondary School; a clergy member of the community, Bishop Egwunike; and other members of the community.

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RSCHPP), Vetty Agala, represented by Mr. Randy Chukwu, said the state government had initiated a health insurance programme that provides healthcare coverage for one year at the cost of ₦25,000.
