Ebonyi police denies escape of Anyim from custody

The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State command, CP Adaku Uche-Anya on Wednesday denied the purported escape of a suspected DSS officer, one Mr. Anyim Chukwudi from custody.
CP, Uche-Anya made this known in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abakaliki by the spokesperson of the command, Joshua Ukandu.
She described the alleged escape.of the suspect, Anyim, as falsehood and baseless.
The statement reads in part: “The Ebonyi State police Command is aware of a trending report on the internet claiming that a Department of State Security (DSS) officer escaped from police custody.

“While this sensational story does not merit a response, we feel it is necessary to clarify that the report is completely false and misleading.
“The command received a petition against Mr. Anyim Chukwudi, who is purportedly a personnel of the Department of State Security (DSS).
“He was arrested, and the command wrote to his office to verify his identity.
“While we awaited a response, he was granted administrative bail. At no point did he escape from custody, contrary to the claims made in the report.
The Commissioner, CP Uche-Anya, however, enjoined journalists to seek confirmation or clarification before hastily publishing stories.
She stressed that the news of the escape of Anyim is inaccurate, and unfounded.
