Ebonyi lawmaker, Nwoke applauds Tinubu’s move to tackle insecurity, erosion in S-East region

The Member representing Abakaliki North Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mr. Victor Chidi Nwoke has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s move in tackling the challenges of insecurity, environmental degradation, particularly erosion among other things in the south east region.
Nwoke, Chairman House Committee on Youth Development and Sports, made this known in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State.
He equally commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for signing into law, the south east development commission, SEDC, bill, adding that the ascent of the bill into law becomes imperatively pertinent and apt for the Development of the South Eastern Nigeria.
The statement reads in part: “I profusely appreciate President Tinubu for demonstrating utmost patriotism by assenting to this critical bill. This is a decisive step to pull the South East back from the brink, address its multifaceted developmental and security challenges, historical disparities and as well promote inclusivity in order to effectively tackle the myriad challenges and set the region on the path to sustainable growth and development.
“Let me also appreciate the sponsor of the bill, the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu and other co-sponsors from the South East region who sought to establish a commission that will be charged with the responsibility to receive and manage funds from the allocation of the federation account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damage suffered by the region as a result of the effect of the civil war after 54 years.
‘”This legislation is designed to address critical issues such as environmental degradation, particularly erosion, as well as the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads in the Southeast states, including Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo State.
“Let me also charge those that will be charged with the responsibility to be on the saddle of affairs of the Commission to judiciously utilise the resources and funds that will be allocated to the commission to make visible impacts on the lives of the people and for the overall best development of the South Eastern Region.
“I am very optimistic that the South East Development Commission will catalyse accelerated development in the geo-political zone and I hereby call on the people of the zone to embrace this new development, support fully and take ownership of the Commission” he stated.
