The deputy Senate majority Whip Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial zone on Friday has begged Nigerians to jettison politics and should support the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Tax reform law.

He emphasized that Tinubu, being a man and an economist, is thinking outside the box, and making provisions to expand the tax base, and that the country is getting richer.

Nwaebonyi made this known while speaking with newsmen shortly after visiting one of his numerous road projects at Ndiagu Umuezeaka Ngbo community, Ngbo East Development centre, leading to two major markets in Ngbo and Izzi; Okwor and Odomoke on Friday.

According to him: “Well, I’m just trying to prove a point that constituency projects are desirable and sustainable because the impression many people have is that projects attracted by lawmakers are all jamboree projects that end in newspapers.

“But when I came on board, I discovered that some funds through the executives, which are called zonal Intervention Funds, are made for the 109 senatorial zones of the Federation. I decided to channel mine to meet the needs of my people.

“So, in some communities, like you can see this market, there’s another market up there called Odomoke Market. This road connects about four communities, connecting two markets.

“So I decided to put this road to connect the communities and the markets. Why am I trying to do this? With little funds, we cannot actually achieve much. That is the point I’m making.

“And this is the seventh kilometre of road I’ve been able to attract through the Zonal Intervention Programmes of the National Assembly. And I must tell you, the people are happy. You can see facts are speaking for themselves.

“All geared towards making life better. You should see the road before, even the time of Stone base. It was not motorable. But you can see, even with the level it is, even before the concrete, people are already praising God and they are commending the President and they are happy with what we are doing.

“This is about 7.8 kilometres. But like I said, we are starting with one kilometre per annual budget. Every year I do one kilometre. And I do a quality job. And as long as they continue to vote me in, I must do the road till the end. In as much as the intervention funds are coming, the road must continue to go on.

Speaking on the tax reform law of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nwaebonyi said: “Well, we passed into law, of course, the Tax Reform Act, which of course Mr. President was accepted to that day. And today is an act of the 10th National Assembly of the Federal Bureau of Nigeria.

“So, it goes without saying that by 1st of January 2026,  that the act is deemed to have come into effect. And I must tell you, every patriotic Nigerian  should support that act.

“Because one thing is so special about the act, it shifted the tax burden  from the poor and placed it towards the bourgeoisie.

“That is one thing I love so much about that act. And moreover, by that act, all the federated states are put in pressure to stimulate more economic activities in their states.

“Because the more VAT you get is dependent on the level of economic activities in your state. So gone are the days where you realise that at the end of the month you get VAT.  Yes, you get VAT. But the more you work, the more you eat.

“So, Nigerians should jettison politics and support this wonder of the President. This is one of the steps President Tinubu has taken that have made me describe him as a man that thinks outside the box. The population of the country is on the increase.

“For example, being a family man, your budget when you have three children should change to your budget when you have seven children. So you should expand your income because the expenditure has increased. Over the years, we’ve had presidents who cannot plan for tomorrow.

“But Tinubu, being a man and an economist, who thinks outside the box, is making provision to expand the tax base. By expanding the tax base of the federation, you’re expanding the economic base of the country.

“We’re getting richer and we’re touching more lives. More roads are being done because more revenues are there. So Nigeria is on the rise under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu” he stressed.

In a remark, the Development centre coordinator of Ngbo East, Alike Uchenna said the construction of the said road by the lawmaker will boost the economic growth of farmers in the area, and vowed that the people will vote him massively in 2027 as a show of appreciation.
