C’River police seize 284 cartridges, other dangerous weapons

The Cross River State Police commissioner, Rashid Afegbua has said that the command under his watch in five months has seized 520 cards of tramadol from addicts and peddlers.

CP Rashid Afegbua made the disclosure in Calabar weekend when he interacted with journalists, stating further that 284 cartridges of bullets were also recovered from suspected criminals during the period.

The State Police boss who was giving accounts of his stewardship in his five months stay in office so far as the Commissioner of Police from July to November 2025,.

He maintained that his approach to policing in the state has been guided by three core principles, such as visible presence, intelligence-led operations, and partnership-driven policing.

The CP further disclosed that, Vehicle and properties were also recovered, but have been released to their owners on bound,While stressing further that arms and ammunition were also recovered, including one Automatic English Pump Action, six locally fabricated long guns and two machetes.

 According to him, “the state Command has been collaborating to create a safe, stable, and law-abiding Cross River where criminal elements are denied the space to operate, and citizens feel protected, not just policed”.

 He continued “There has been increased police presence and response capacity in urban, rural, and border communities via visibility policing, We have restored trust and accountability in police-community relations; strengthened inter-agency collaboration to ensure coordinated security efforts,” he stated.

The police boss said While they remain committed to their mandate of ensuring peace and security, he appealed to members of the public  to continue to support their efforts by providing genuine and timely information.

He stressed that Policing is a shared responsibility, and that they cannot be everywhere at the  same time, emphasizing that everybody’s cooperation is critical to their success, especially as the state prepares for Carnival Calabar and Festival Events for 2025.
