Benue COE To Launch Entrepreneurship Development Center For Manpower, Revenues Generation
From Attah Ede, Makurdi
The College of Education Katsina – Ala, Benue State, on Friday said it is planning to launch a Centre for Entrepreneurship Development for training of manpower that will superintend other components of the institution in order to generate more revenues for the state.
The Provost of the College, Maurice Tyokever, who made this known while speaking with teachers and students, said that the college management has given approval for a new directorate called the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CEFTED) to be established.
He explained that the Center will focus on developing manpower and entrepreneurship skills through specialized programs that differ from the regular courses offered by the college. These programs will be aligned with the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) minimum standard to ensure quality education.
Tyokever emphasized the need for the college to explore additional revenue streams due to financial challenges and limited funding from the government and expressed optimism that the CEFTED will help address these challenges and contribute to the overall growth of the institution.
“Under my leadership, the College of Education Katsina Ala has witnessed massive infrastructure, academic programs, and student and staff welfare.
Tyokever also shared plans to expand the degree programs offered at the college in collaboration with the University of Calabar.
“Despite facing funding shortages and previous mismanagement of funds, the college is striving to enhance its academic offerings and strengthen its ties with the host community.
“We are committed to promoting transparency and efficiency within the institution to ensure its continued success”, Tyokever.
He maintained that upon assumption of office, he was able to resuscitated the both primary and secondary schools owned by the institution which became nonfunctional due to maladministration in the past
Tyokever stressed that his plan is to take the college to greater height, adding that he will do his best to continue to develop the institution for the good of his community and the state.
“I am the first Provost to be appointed from the host community (Ikurav-Tiev) since the school was established in 1976. To demonstrate their love and for the appointment of their son, the people of Ikurav-Tiev came out in their numbers to clear all the weeds and grasses within the school premises.
“I took over as a provost of the school when it was shut down due to gross failure in management, but I have been able to revived the school and has brought peace and institutionalized mutual understanding between the host community and the college management team”, Tyokever stated.
