Bad governance: S-South APC support groups vow to shun planned protest
By Ene Ene, Calabar
As planned protest against bad governance in the country gathers momentum, a solidarity group under the aegis of South South APC Support Groups in Cross River said it will not be part of the planned protest slated for August 1st 2024 .
Addressing journalists in Calabar, the groups in conjunction with the office of the SA to the Governor on APC support groups matters maintained that the planners of the protest have refused to apply the needed principles, which is consultation, consolidation and confrontation but rather resorted to the last option which is protest.
The National Chairman of APC South South support groups, Elder Iso Bassey Edim and the secretary, Bright Ewola, in their statement noted that every citizen has the constitutional right to express themselves through protest and any other form of agitation, but maintained that as at this time in point, protest is never and option to the problems but appealed for dialogue for the interest of all and the nation at large
They stated that Cross River State cannot afford to have another violent protest, as the state is yet to recover from the last “END SARS” protest which led to the destruction of properties worth billions of Naira mostly perpetrated by stranger elements
The group also called on security agents in the state to be on the lookout for the planners of the unwanted protest through thorough searching of vehicles coming into the state, through our waterways and red line Areas.
They applauded the governor, Bassey Edet Otu for what he has been able to do so far as a state to cushion the effect of hardship so far in the State by giving cash, foodstuffs and other material palliatives to ameliorate the effects of hardship in the State
