Reps contestant, Aliuna urges EBSIEC, Security Agencies to ensure Free, Fair Ebonyi LG Poll
By Uchenna Okeh, Abakaliki
A House of Representatives contestant for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Aliuna Godwin, has called on the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) and security agencies to ensure that the forthcoming local government elections in the state are free, fair and credible.
Aliuna, who is contesting under the platform of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), made the call in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
He urged EBSIEC to uphold the principles of transparency, impartiality and credibility throughout the electoral process, stressing that the integrity of the election would depend largely on the commission’s commitment to conducting a level playing field for all candidates and political parties.

According to him, the people of Ebonyi State deserve an electoral process in which their votes are respected and their choices freely expressed without intimidation, manipulation or undue interference.
The politician also appealed to security agencies deployed for the election to remain professional, neutral and committed to protecting voters, electoral officials and other stakeholders before, during and after the exercise.
He said the presence and conduct of security personnel at polling units should promote confidence among voters and ensure that every eligible citizen is able to exercise his or her franchise without fear.
Aliuna, however, commended the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for what he described as his efforts toward sustaining peace and order across the state.
He also applauded the governor for providing the necessary logistics to support the conduct of the local government elections, noting that adequate preparations were essential to the success of the exercise.
The DLA candidate further urged Governor Nwifuru to continue to monitor the electoral process and advise the commission to uphold transparency and credibility in the conduct of the polls.
He stressed that the governor’s leadership and commitment to a peaceful electoral environment could help strengthen public confidence in the local government election.
Aliuna noted that credible local government elections would not only deepen democratic participation at the grassroots but also contribute to effective governance and accountability across the state’s 13 local government areas.

He therefore appealed to political parties, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully and respect the rules guiding the electoral process.
He expressed hope that EBSIEC and the security agencies would discharge their responsibilities professionally, allowing the people of Ebonyi to freely determine their leaders in a peaceful, transparent and credible election scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026.
