The governor of Ebonyi State Francis Nwifuru has ahead of the 2027 general election said that opposition parties are willing to complain, and tasked the security agencies not to mind the

accusations of the oppositions.

Nwifuru made this known shortly after inaugurating and handing over of thirty one operation all vehicles to security chiefs; Police, Army, NSCDC, DSS and others at the new government House centenary City Abakaliki.

He further urged the security agencies to discharge their duties diligently and professionally, especially in the political period in the country.

“I am lacking words because I don’t want to hit the words directly so that our enemy will not capture it well because this is security.

“I am very impressed from the NDLEA, the Customs, the Immigration, the Federal Security Corps, Prison, Civil Defense, Army and Police.

“I’ve said this time without number that I’m one of the luckiest governors in this great country. Reason is because of the kind of people that have been mining their security here.

“They are very committed leaders, very committed officers, men of character with a lot of intellectual capacity. At the first instance, on May 29th, 2023.

“when I took the mantle of leadership of this great state, at the first Security Council meeting, there was a lot of uncertainty. Where to start, how to start and what to do.

“Fortunately enough, we had a very interesting man as a Commissioner of Police here then. He started the journey with us and he performed very wonderfully well.

“He handed over a resolute leader, a very consistent, very interesting officer, a former CP.

“But one thing is very striking and very interesting. Most of these three CPs that he handed over moved from the rank they came here with to the next rank.

“Likewise, the Councilmen Commanders and the Commanders of the Women Battalion and a lot of officers have witnessed a lot of promotions here in Eboe.

“This did not happen as a coincidence. It happens because of the service they rendered in Ebonyi. And we are very sure that God Almighty is directly, tactically paying them back by making provision for that promotion to come.

“A lot are left here with very great celebrations in their hearts. We celebrated a lot, many of you who had retired. We handed over very prestigious vehicles to them as a gift because of the service rendered.

“We have been challenged at our local areas, especially in Polix. I recall in 2019, the local government bought Nissan Pickup. And when we had COVID-19 coupled with NSAS, these vehicles were recalled to the centre.

“And a lot of local government couldn’t have opportunity of getting the vehicle back to the neighbourhood watch at the local level.

“That imposed a lot of challenges to the DPOs, neighbourhood watch commanders at the local government level, and to the FOB leaders in some zones.

“And we looked at it critically and found out that it is a necessity because the most important thing in governance is security of rights and property.

“And that is why we spent a huge amount of funds to procure a lot of security equipment, which we will not mention here, but we will say one or two with this vehicle.

“We have drones, we have other security equipment that can dictate where you are, who can give us information of what you are doing with your gadgets. And we are very grateful to God.

“These are the main source of our own way of combating security. And I give thanks to the professionals who have displayed a lot of integrity in handling most of this equipment today.

“And I have that confidence that this vehicle will be handled the way most of the equipment given to the security agencies are being handled, that up to today they are very much effective, very, very effective, and we have not recorded misfortune today.

Again and again, I want to thank the Chief of Army Staff, especially the Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police, a very known fine officer, I want to thank him especially.

And other leaders in the security, I want to thank them especially. And also to thank the leaders of this state for cooperating with the security agencies.

And also to thank the youths for supporting us unconditionally. Knowing fully well that a lot are taking time to complain. The essence of having a government is to provide the environment.

“This has been in place, we’ve been doing that, and we have confidence that our rural areas are witnessing a lot of tremendous infrastructural development, and that is the essence of government.

“If you move out from the town, there are some places you get to, it looks like the town too, that will reduce the traffic of coming to live in Abakaliki. We’ve done that in Iboko, Atafipo, even in Ugru.

“We’re also developing a lot of cities and a lot of institutions. But we are not media compliant, and that is why a lot of people can get up to talk.

And I want to charge the security agencies on this note, be more vigilant, don’t relax, based on the incidences, based on what you put on the ground, be more alert, be more combating, let our enemies not have their way.

Again, this is a political period. We know that the opposition parties are willing to complain. They are ready on ground, readily ready to lay allegations against you.

Be professional, be professional as a security agency, forget about the allegations, face the reality and the facts, deal with the facts.

God Almighty, we speak for you. I want to assure you of our support, and of the support of everybody in this great state.

We’ll be willing to support you, we’ll be available to be with you, and that is what motivates us to spend these huge resources in making all these vehicles available to you.
