Investigations have uncovered an alleged plot by the former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Comrade Austin Agada, and members of his dissolved Executive Committee to petition Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to a sources, Agada is said to have allegedly engaged Mr. Timothy Hembaor and Mr. Bemgba Iortyom to draft a petition reportedly exceeding 350 pages. The petition allegedly contains falsehoods and serious accusations aimed at portraying Governor Alia negatively before the President and the Nigerian public.

Sources further disclosed that the petition is intended to be submitted not only to President Tinubu, but also to the National Chairman of the APC, the two reconciliation committees constituted by the party to address internal grievances, as well as various anti-graft agencies. There are also plans to publish the petition verbatim in national newspapers following its submission, alongside a scheduled world press conference.

The petition is reportedly endorsed by members of the dissolved Austin Agada-led Executive Committee, some APC stakeholders said to be loyal to Senator George Akume, 23 APC Local Government Chairmen, Senators from Zones A and B, and eight members of the House of Representatives.

Further findings indicate that arrangements are being made to submit the petition next week, with funding allegedly sourced from Mathias Byuan and other federal appointees while former  Speaker and majority leader of the Benue State house of assembly provided documents,  information that allegedly aided Hembaor and Bemgba in writing the petition.

Similarly, a group described as a pseudo civil society organization has reportedly been contacted to stage a protest in Abuja on the same day the petitions are to be submitted at various locations.

The petition among other things is asking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the APC not to allow Governor Hyacinth Alia to get a return ticket for his reelection on the platform of the APC.

“It is important for Nigerians, and particularly the people of Benue State, to be aware of these alleged plans, which some observers believe are aimed at distracting the current administration and disrupting governance in the state.

“Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, by available records, has remained focused on governance and service delivery, and there is no established evidence of wrongdoing on his part. The people of Benue State are therefore urged to remain vigilant and discerning, as the state continues its pursuit of peace, stability, and development.

“More details will be given next week with more sponsors”, the source said.
