‘Don’t scrap SIEC , demand more transparency -election observers insist

The National Independent group of Election observers has declared that State Independent Electoral Commissions need to be more transparent in there conduct instead of being scraping as a Body
Lazarus Nwanchukwu the team leader of the Election observers and President of the an NGO, centre for the promotion of peace and unity in Nigeria made this know while presenting their preliminary report on the Niger council polls at the NUJ press center in Minna.

The explained that, from the interim report from his team across the three senatorial zones in the State, the turn out of electorates in some quarters was high at most polling units in Niger South.
He Stated further that, the turn out in some other senatorial district was tremendously based on individual capacity of candidates and parties.
Nwanchukwu commended security agencies for discharging their duties with high sense of responsibilities.
” Inline with our duties and observations in the State, the delegation also observed the Chairmen of the forum of State Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria also observing the election
” But our members seriously wondered why the Commission Chairmen should be judge in their own matter, a situation and practice that must henceforth be stopped “
On the outcry that, State Independent Electoral Commission are tools in the hand of State Governors to install their parties at the helm of affairs, the Election observer team leader noted that, even election conducted by INEC has often be questioned by Nigerians.
” All we need from them is to demand for more transparency, not scraping them, even elections conducted by INEC has often come under serious scrutiny “
