Niger State’s first privately owned university, Newgate University, Minna, has rolled out 14 postgraduate programmes with the support of 16 local and foreign visiting professors.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Sadiq Yusuf, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the university’s main campus along the Bida–Minna Road on Tuesday.

Yusuf said the milestone followed a successful resource verification exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to assess the institution’s manpower and facilities for the proposed programmes.

He explained that the programmes cover Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees across various disciplines.

The PGD programmes include Management Studies, Computer Science, Public Health, and Health Management, while the MSc programmes cover Accounting, Business Administration, International Relations, Public Health, and Computer Science, with specializations in Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, and Information Technology Systems.

Yusuf added that the university will also offer PhD degrees in Computer Science, Business Administration, Accounting, and International Relations, alongside professional and executive programmes such as Doctor of Business Administration, Doctor of Management, and Doctor of Public Health.

“This university has made remarkable progress. We started academic activities in 2022 with about 300–400 students, but today we have over 2,000 students enrolled in 14 undergraduate programmes,” he said.
