Varisty students, medical volunteers conduct medical outreach in Bakassi

In collaboration with Health Workers Fellowship, an arm of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star in Cross River State, university students under the aegis of Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars, ABAS Ambo Zone Calabar have held a 2-day medical checks on people in Bakassi LGA of the state.
The free medical outreach was part of the humanitarian activities to give back to the society, according to the leader of the team, Eric David Iyango.
He said the event was held in the two fishing settlements of Mbuji and Ugwuaghafong in Bakassi where they attended to, at least, 40 persons, including children.
They conducted four specific tests, including Blood Pressure check, Blood sugar check, Malaria rapid diagnostic test, and HIV test and made referrals to approved health facilities.
Eric Iyango jr said the health experts held health talk after the medical checks, where they were advised on importance of giving good attention to their health issues.
Iyango said, “The essence of the outreach was to check the health status of the people and also give health tips to and importance of regular medical checkup. At least, 40 persons were attended to, some treated of minor injuries”
“We know that with current situation in the country, it can have certain social and psycho-effects on the people. So we pulled our resources and with supports from some well to do individuals we decided to extend medical assistance to our people because there’s the saying that prevention is better than cure “
One of the beneficiaries, Thomas Effiom said they were delighted with the visit of the young medical team, commending them for their humanitarian efforts.
