UNICROSS Prioritizes Staff Welfare, Launches Maiden Staff Week

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Francisca Bassey, has assured staff of improved welfare, better working conditions, and strengthening of institutional bonds. 

The VC  made this vow yesterday  during an interactive session with our Correspondent in Calabar after  the launch of the university’s maiden Staff Week, which she said is likely  to become an annual event that will foster unity, recognize contributions, and promote staff well-being.

She averred that her administration will prioritize  staff welfare, aiming to increase productivity and promote institutional growth. 

Bassey said the Staff Week is a “deliberate and visionary” initiative celebrated to appreciate the human capital that forms the bedrock of the university.

The former Unical lecturer turned UNICROSS Vice Chancellor assured that the  Staff Week would become an annual event, that will be used by management of the institution to strengthen institutional bonds and promote a culture of health and excellence. 

The Vice Chancellor stated that the policy thrust of his administration is to give priority attention to welfare of staff which she said would increase productivity of staff in the institution.

Bassey whose approval for the position of substantive vice Chancellor by Gov. Bassey Otu, took place some months ago promising to run an inclusive government where input of staff would be honoured in decision making process.

She urged  staff  to fully engage in the week’s activities, including medical check-ups, wellness talks, fitness sessions, and networking events.

 Bassey said the staff week  will became necessary as it could led to institutional growth, and brings about a culture of excellence.

The VC  described the Staff Week as  “deliberate and visionary” initiative aimed at fostering unity, recognizing contributions, and promoting the holistic well-being of both academic and non-academic staff.  

“This is not just another calendar activity; it is a heartfelt appreciation of the human capital that forms the bedrock of our university,” The VC maintained.

Throwing light on why she and her  team decided to embark on the 4-day Staff week event, the VC described the ceremony as a historic milestone that began with inaugural lecture, to honor, engage, and uplift the spirit of the institution’s workforce. 

She reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to staff development, infrastructural growth, and global academic recognition.
