Teachers tasked to teach peace in schools as insecurity persists in Nigeria

Teachers were on Tuesday tasked to teach peace in schools as a way to curtail the lingering insecurity in all parts of the country.

The leadership of the National association of teachers of Arabic and Islamic studies in collaboration with the Muslim council of Adamawa state, made this during the 14 international conference of Arabic and Islamic studies teachers held in Yola .

The Nations News Nigeria reports that the theme of the conference is ‘Peace and security at the national and international scanes Arabic and Islamic perspective, which was held at the federal college of education Yola .

The chairman of Muslim council Adamawa state Mall Gombo jika, in his opening remarks welcomed participants to Adamawa as it’s first time hosting such an event to bring together teachers to the state for such a conference and call them to teach peace as students see them as role models.

Also, the chairman of the occasion, Ibrahim Umar who is the  vice chancellor of  moddibo Adama university yola, however called on the Muslim umma to embrace peaceful coexistence among themself and others .

Given examples of the happening in northern Nigeria, especially the northeast and northwest where insecurity is the order of the day, called for proactive measures to be taken to ensure total peace and order in the two regions.

He called on the teachers of Arabic and Islamic studies to teach and preach for peace in schools, so that students will know what it takes to live in peace and harmony with others.

Earlier in a remark, the national president of NATAIs, Musa Adesina said that the theme for this year’s conference is to provide opportunities for all Arabic and Islamic teachers to identify and deal with the security challenges witnessed in the world, especially in Nigeria.

The association, however prayed for the souls of those soldiers and all security agents that was killed in the cost of providing peace in the country to get an internal peace 

Umar pate the VC called on teachers to impart good morals to students in order to get leaders who will be peace ambassadors in Nigeria.

According to him, social media is full of fake news and can destabilize the peace of any society, if not watch carefully.

” Social media is consuming the time of Youths without them realizing it and it is full of fake and misleading information that can deputize the peace of the country, therefore teachers are role models and they can change the narrative” he said .

Responding, the governor of Adamawa state, Amadu Umaru Fintiri, also called on the teachers to be role models and teach peace to the students, because they are leaders of tomorrow.
