The Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese Most Rev. Calistus Onaga has urged government officials, Politicians and other people in any leadership positions in Nigeria to return stolen money.
Bishop Onaga made this statement in a homily in celebration of Palm Sunday at the Holy ghost cathedral parish Ogui Enugu with theme “the suffering of Jesus Christ consoles us”
The Catholic Bishop in his message to the Catholic faithfuls made a reference in the bible about Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus Christ and accepted that he was guilty and then returned the money he collected.
He emphasized that “the most important thing in someone’s life is to acknowledge your sin, show remorse and be ready to change for good. This passion is ushering us into holy week and we are going to enter the holy week in a manner that is undiluted”.
He went further and advised them to always forgive one another, and continue to pray for one another, stressing that Jesus died for the sin he did not commit and yet said “God forgive them, for they know not what they are doing”.
“You can imagine all the degrees of insult and fabrication against one man just to kill him, yet Christ endured all, he endured blackmail. If someone wanted to destroy you for no just cause, try and forgive that person. I know it is not easy” he said.
In a related development, The Vicar in charge of St Stephen’s Anglican Church Inland Town Onitsha, Venerable Ifeanyichukwu Azubike, has encouraged the people to recognize Christ as their king and saviour for them to be blessed.
The vicar, Azubike in his sermon, equally charged Christians to be humble for them to receive their blessings from God.
Venerable Azubike who spoke extensively on the theme, “Simplicity and Humility,” frowned at those who are proud, due to their societal status and certificate which according to him will end when the person dies but humility and simplicity in Christ will lead to glorious life.
He maintained that with pride, one will receive disgrace while humility is the path to elevation.
Venerable Azubike who reflected on the biblical story of Christ triumphant entry into Jerusalem noted that Christ used a Colt, which signifies humility and peace, describing Christ as an epitome of simplicity and humility.
