Police trails Kidnappers, recovers AK-47 Rifle, 2 magazine’s with 50 Rounds of Ammunition in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command on Monday said it has intensified manhunt for a notorious Kidnap Gang who escaped after been smashed from the scene of the shootout at Awgbu in Orumba North Local Government Area on Friday night.

The command’s spokesperson, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, who made this known in a statement signed and issued to newsmen, said the operatives of the command combed the surrounding bushes and recovered a loaded AK-47 rifle with double magazines containing 50 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

He said that the items was recovered through the combined efforts of the Police and the Local Vigilante group in the area.

Ikenga said that the weapon was promptly rendered safe and taken into custody for further investigation.

He said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, praised the diligence of the Joint Team and promised to reward it for its commitment to public safety.

Meanwhile, the Command’s Special Anti Kidnapping Unit at Awkuzu has taken over the case for proper investigation as directed by the Commissioner of Police.

The Commander of the Unit has assured that it will leave no stone unturned until the kidnap suspects are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, the four male victims rescued from the kidnappers last Friday have all been re-united with their joyous families.
