The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Oyo state Chapter has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the management of Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital Ogbomoso, threatening strike if their longstanding demands are not addressed.

This is contained in a report received by the Oyo state Secretary of the Association, Comrade Aina Emmanuel Oluwasegun as signed by the Unit Chairman and Secretary,  Comrade OJewumi Olutayo and Comrade Adedokun Mosunmola of NANNM LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Branch made available to newsmen on Friday Night as issued to the Chief Medical Director of the Teaching Hospital, Olawale  OLAKULEHIN.

It stated that the Directive was sequel to the resolution of the Association Congress held on the 3rd of September, 2024, where the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier entered into with the Management was carefully reviewed, it was observed that only two of the agreed terms (payment of the uniform allowance and Regularization of  certain cadres of nurses) was implemented within the stipulated time frame, while other critical issues remain unaddressed.

The statement noted that despite repeated reminders and follow-ups,the management has failed to act on these matters.

“This neglect has continued to expose our members to economic hardship, frustration, burnout, and a loss of confidence in Management’s sincerity.

“In light of the above, the Congress unanimously resolved to issue a 15-day ultimatum, effective from 4th September, 2025. Kindly be informed that failure to implement all outstanding terms of the MoU within this period will leave our members with no choice but to embark on industrial action.

“The critical outstanding demands include  Implementation of the new National Minimum Wage with effect from January 2025 – till date Non-implementation has subjected nurses to financial strain and declining morale.

“Payment of promotion arrears with effect from January 2018 –2024  the prolonged delay in payment has made the arrears lose significant value due to inflation and currency depreciation. Recruitment of additional nurses to address staff shortages – Shortage has left nurses overstretched and exhausted.

“Renovation and proper furnishing of nurses’ stations and rest rooms across all wards and units – Poor working conditions undermine efficiency, morale and staff well-being.”

It further explained “We strongly advise the management to seize this window of opportunity to address these issues decisively and avert disruption of hospital operations, patient care, and institutional progress.

“While we remain open to dialogue, it must be emphasized that our members’ patience is exhausted. Failure to act within this ultimatum will be regarded as deliberate provocation, and the Association will proceed with industrial action without further notice.”
