The former minister, Dalung insisted that tackling corruption within these religious communities is crucial due to their widespread reach and impact in Nigeria.

“These religions, being the dominant groups that have wielded significant influence over the country since its inception, hold immense sway over the beliefs and behaviors of a large portion of the population.

“Religious institutions often play a significant role in shaping societal norms and values. When corruption permeates these institutions, it can undermine the moral fabric of society, leading to a normalization of unethical behavior.

“By addressing corruption within religious communities, we can work towards restoring integrity and ethical conduct at the grassroots level. Religious leaders are influential figures who command the respect and obedience of their followers. They have the power to shape public opinion and influence political decisions.

“Furthermore, corruption within religious institutions can erode public trust and confidence in these institutions. This loss of trust not only impacts religious adherence but also extends to other aspects of governance and societal cohesion.

“By rooting out corruption within religious organizations, we can rebuild trust and foster a culture of honesty and integrity in all sectors of society” he stressed
