Niger Govt warns against usage of bank loans to execute projects

For effective service delivery and accountability in the implementation of the Ward Development Project across the  274 wards in the State, the administration of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago is to constitute a Management committee for each ward.

The  Committee members will be carefully selected  to ensure that it is devoid to political  manipulation from any quarters but drive grassroot development.

The Chairman of the state steering Committee on the ward development project,  Mallam Phallalu  Bako Mohammed  who disclosed this also cautioned  the  proposed  ward executives to initiate projects based on their monthly allocation and not to take bank loans to execute any project.

Mallam Phallalu Bako Mohammed handed down the warning during the sensitization of  people at the palaces of Etsu Nupe, Emir of Borgu and Emir of Kagara Emirates of Niger state.

Bako who is also the Commissioner,  Ministry of Rural and Community Development, warned that government would not hesitate to sanction any ward committee that obtain bank loan to argument the monthly allocation to the ward.

The Chairman, Ward development project state steering committee noted that all hands must be on deck to ensure that ward development project meet specifications.

He appealed to traditional rulers and stakeholders to collaborate with various ward committees so as to ensure prudent utilization of the funds made available to them.

The Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar,the Emir of Borgu, Barrister Muhammad Sani Haliru Dantoro and the Emir of Kagara, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmed Gunna all promised to work closely with the ward development committees so as to achieve desire object, which would bring development closer to the people.

Members of the All Progressive Congress(APC) across the 274 wards in Niger State has been warned to steer clear of funds allocated  for the ward development project as penalty awaits erring members.
