Niger flood disaster death toll rises to 151

…..As 3018 people displaced, 2 bridges washed away

The numbers of casualties has sharply risen in the Mokwa flash flood disaster to 151 as at Saturday morning, even as rescue operation continues at the weekend.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA , Alhaji Abdullahi Baba Ara stated this in an update issued on Saturday morning.
According to him, “3018 people have been displaced, 503 households and 265 houses affected by the disaster.
The number of communities swept away has increased from two to three.
According to the Director General two major roads and two bridges have also been washed away by the disaster.
It would be recalled that, on May 29th Tragedy: Flash flood kills 21and wash away 50 houses in two Niger Communities.

ilInitially two communities Niger State were thrown into mourning as a heavy down pour that lasted for hours caused a flash flood that claimed 21 lives and wash away 50 houses they were residing.
The heavy down pour which started late on Wednesday, the 28th of May lasted till the early hours of Thursday leaving behind tails of woes and deaths.
The State emergencyagency has said ” NSEMA is in receipt of report of a deadly flood disaster that ravaged two communities of Tiffin maza and Anguwan hausawa in Mokwa town of Mokwa LGA”
He disclosed that, the incidence occurred last night (Wednesday)during a torrential downpour of very high intensity that lasted several hours.
