NGO calls for imprisonment of fake native doctors in Anambra

The President of Mahogany Spartans, a Non governmental organization, NGO, in Anambra State, Obiorah Gablyn Oguonu, has said that the sack of fake native doctors are a great welcome development in the state.
He described the fake native doctors as criminals and recalled that when he was the chairman of their local vigilante operatives at Awka Etiti community , he did not allow for littering the roads with sacrificial items as it assist in environmental hazards and dirtiness.
“If I catch you littering the road with fetish sacrifices you must eat those sacrificial items you prepared to come and dump on the road.
“Do your thing in your house and come out. It is part of the environmental hazards we are talking about. So I laud the governor for their sack,” he stated.
He stressed the need to imprison those fake native doctors found guilty to serve as a deterrent to would be future offenders lamenting that, “I have not seen any of the fake native doctors convicted.
On multiple levies, uniformed men and plain dressed ones scattered all over the state extorting and intimidating innocent residents and visitors, Oguonu lamented that their illegal activities and actions are best described as ghotto treatment..
“We don’t need ghotto treatment, why is my state being under terror. From the Onitsha end of the Niger Bridge if you are coming into Onitsha you will be baffled by the different people with strange characters they portray.
“Some are policemen, some wear greenish uniform with Monday hammers, pestles, clubs, etc on their hands and they are said to be Ocha Brigade, scores of uniformed and plain clothes men, all committing nuisance on the road. So many things are happening at Upper Iweka.
“At Ochanja market axis one day some people were running and on enquiry I was told they are Ocha Brigade, anti tout group, that they are tormenting people, carting away wares.
“Why do Ocha Brigade use government power to torment and frustrate people. Some of the members of the Ocha Brigade have problems in their families, some of them are suffering, their families are not in order,” he disclosed.
Reacting on the shutdown of Onitsha drug market by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, the Mahogany Spartans boss, lamented that some people have died as a result of the closure of the drug market.
He attributed the cause of the crisis in the market to leadership and urged the traders to stop back biting and see themselves as their brother’s keeper.
” Let those on fake drugs face the music and those doing genuine business be allowed to do their businesses. Let there be peace, Onitsha is the melting point of the Igbo,” he posited.
Oguonu who has placed about nine indigent students on scholarship to tertiary institution, recently announced that any member of the Block Rosary organization from St. Ann Parish Church Awka Etiti and St. Jude Parish church, Fegge, Onitsha who passes entrance examination into convent/Sisters’ school, will be placed on scholarship.
He described the scholarship he is offering as a sacrifice to the down trodden who could not afford the fees to actualize their dream .
On the coming 8 November 2025 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, the Philanthropist and protector of the oppressed advised the electorate to vote their conscience and not to mortgage their conscience because of financial gratification.
He also stressed the need for ethnic and religious tolerance irrespective of political parties one may belong to as peace is the ultimate to assist usher in a democratic leadership devoid of flawed election process.
