The house of representatives member representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency on the platform of labour party, LP, Chimaobi Atu has vowed to boost economy and create wealth for farmers in his Constituency.
He made this known while speaking with newsmen during the flagged-off of a one-kilometre access road to facilitate further development of Ugwuaji community in Enugu South Local Government Area.
The Nations News Nigeriareports that the road project was embarked upon to create access road to easy movement of farm produce to the two major markets; Eke Market and Umumba-Afor Market in the community.
He said that the road linking both major markets and having a spar-off would contribute greatly to the economic boost of the community and create wealth among farmers and traders in the two markets in the community.
According to him, this is part of the campaign promises I made to our people during my election and a way to appreciate the good people of Ugwuaji for their support to me.
“It is all through the grace of God and I believe that to whom much is given, much is expected. I am assuring that more dividends of democracy is still coming even I have installed solar streetlights in most parts of the constituency.
“What I have in mind to do for the people in order to reposition and ensure quality representation and people-oriented leadership is much,” he said.
He applauded the state government and entire security agencies for ensuring security of lives and property, adding: “I appeal to everyone to support government at all levels as they provide security meant to ensure that human and commercial activities strive.”
Responding, the Traditional Ruler of Obeagu Ugwuaji Autonomous Community, Igwe Nwobodo Nyia commended the house of representatives member for liberating Ugwuaji from the lack of dividends of democracy.
“We are witnessing development that have eluded our people for some years; and Atu, today, has shown he is capable of providing leadership and direction to our people.
“I am urging other politicians and leaders to emulate him and be people-centered in all they do and ensure the alleviation of hardship, among the people,” Nyia said.
Also, the Chairman of Labour Party, LP, in Enugu South LGA, Chinwiuba Ngwu said that the party was proud of Atu’s achievements within a short time in the House of Representatives, adding: “Atu has sponsored 14 bills and he remained outspoken at the house”.
He applauded him for the provision of solar streetlights, scholarship to students and direct empowerment to indigents living within the constituency.
In a remark, the Chief Executive Officer of Azodo Engineering Services Ltd, Onyeka Azodo, who is handling the project, assured that the company would abide by specifications and ensure timely completion and handover of the project.
A resident of Ugwuaji community, Mrs. Peace Onuoha, thanked Atu and the Federal Government for the gesture, adding that “We already have solar streetlights; and with the new road our trading in Eke market will flourish the more”. she noted.
