Landlords, council boss, Orji fights over Soludo’s #10m offer for street beatification
By Cyprian Ebele, Onitsha
Landlords in Onitsha, especially at Port Harcourt road, Fegge etc, and the council chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Emeka Orji has continued to fight over governor Charles Soludo’s ten million naria offer for street beatification in the area.
The Nations News Nigeria reports that the state governor, Prof. Charles Soludo had offered #10million to landlords who will be the first to complete their painting of streets, houses/ flowers, inline with his administration’s plan to develop and beautify the state to look like Dubai, Taiwan of Africa.
Recall that the landlords were earlier given the ultimatum of 1st February, 2024 to March 10th to embark on the beautification, but later extended the date to April this year, to destilt their drainages with planting of trees.
Investigation revealed that the Landlords and the council chairman of Onitsha South LGA, Emeka Orji, were said to have disagreed on house painting code.
It was gathered that the landlords in bid to emerge victorious and go home with the governor’s #10 million offer, allegedly dumped white and sky blue combination code as directed by the council chairman, Orji and started their beautification with milk colour and blown.
Reacting to the development, the State Commissioner for Environment Felix Odumegwu, said it is left for the landlords to make their choice and not Council chairman.
According to him: “The landlords/residents rejected the white and sky blue colour combination, being given to them by the council chairman, Emeka Orji and decided to go for milk colour and blown colour combination.
“It is the street that will choose their colour, so samples are being displayed for others to see and make their choice,” he stated.
Also, one of the landlords, Mr Innocent Ikedigbo, who spoke to newsmen said, “This is not our colour code, the colour is sky blue and white combination, not this particular one these buildings have, if we are to go by the colour, none has painted, as you can see, there is no building here with that particular colour code.
The Vice Chairman of Fegge Landlords Association, Mr Ndubuisi Onuzulike who equally spoke to newsmen said that the colour code by the council chairman is not colour code agreed for the project.
