‘IBB is supporting our agitation for Kainji  State- Ibeto

Three Emirates from Niger and Kebbi State that are agitating for the creation of Kainji State have said former Military President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has thrown his weight behind the clamour.

Former Nigeria High Commissioner to South Africa, Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto disclosed this while speaking to newsmen before the presentation of their Memorandum for the creation of Kainji State to the House of Representative committee on constitutional amendment. 

He disclosed that the former Military President who annexed Borgu and Agwara to Niger State during his 1991 state creation exercise is now having a change of heart .

” It is true that IBB  base on the circumstances of that time never wanted Niger to be balkanize, but the exercises of the times has made him to see things differently 

” As our father, he is supporting our agitation for equity, fairness and justice for the actualization of Kainji State “

According to the former Ambassador and Former Deputy Governor of Niger State who is the Chairman of the agitation, the three first class Emirate, two from Niger and one from Kebbi State, have met all the prescribed conditions and guidelines for State creation. 

Alhaji Ibeto flanked by former TRADOC Commander, Major General Shehu Barau rtd said the proposed State has a combined land mass of 47.000 square meters making it the 5th largest state in terms of land mass if created. 

The movement for the creation of Kainji State Chairman further disclosed that, two States from where the proposed New Kainji State is to be created from has a lot of common affinities spanning over 100years.

Ambassador Ahmed Ibeto further revealed that, the headquarters of the proposed state is to be sited at Kontagora due to its central location consisting of 12 Local government area drawn from 6 in Kontagora Emirate in Niger, two LGA  from Borgu Emirate also in Niger and four from Zuru Emirate in Kebbi State.

” We have abundant natural resources, a lot of water bodies and two major hydro dams for arable farming land

” We believe our agitation is going to improve security in our Country as it will bring the government closer to the people and close a lot of ungovernable spaces where criminals come to wreak havoc on hapless citizens ” He concluded.
