Gov. Sule Fires up Nasarawa United ahead of NPFL Football Season
From Abel Zwanke, Lafia
Governor Abdullahi Sule has fired up the spirit of Nasarawa United players ahead of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season, with a strong message delivered through the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Yakubu Kwanta.

Speaking yesterday at the Club House beside Lafia Township Stadium, Kwanta, who represented the governor, assured the Solid Miners of government’s total support as they begin their league campaign against Niger Tornadoes in Kwara State.
“With the new breed of players scouted during the pre-season and the already grounded players in the team, I am confident Nasarawa United will perform excellently this season, win the league and possibly secure a continental ticket,” Kwanta declared on behalf of the governor.
He hailed the team’s showing at the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Tournament where they reached the quarter-finals, and charged the management, players, and supporters to “work assiduously to bring the trophy home.”
Kwanta also revealed that Governor Sule had approved funds for rehabilitation of the Lafia Township Stadium to meet global standards. “Work has commenced and will be completed before our first home game,” he assured.
The contractor handling the project, Engr. Emmanuel Iremosele, promised delivery next week and hinted at bigger plans to further upgrade the stadium.
Club Chairman, Solomon Babanjah, and captain, King Osanga (MON), both expressed gratitude to the governor and pledged to fight hard for league glory and continental qualification.
The Commissioner was accompanied by top sports officials including Permanent Secretary, Ibrahim Alhassan Adamu, Senior Special Adviser on Sports, Comrade Hamza Ibrahim Moyi, State FA Chairman, Comrade Salisu Galadima Basira, and others.
