Gov. Otu approves N10billion for payment of gratuities in C’River

Cross River State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu has approved the Sum of ten billion Naira for the payment of outstanding gratuities to retired Civil/ public servants in the State.
This was contained in a statement signed by the chief press secretary to the Governor, Mr Nsa Gill dated July 2, 2024 and made available to newsmen in Calabar.
It would be recalled that retired Civil servants in the State have been owed arrears of gratuities since 2014 by two successive administrations in the State.
The statement reads in part:; “The promise by this administration to commence payment since last year was delayed due to necessary steps for audit and verification. So far, over two thousand ghost pensioners have been uncovered after the exercise, and have been expunged from Government pension payroll”.
Meanwhile, a committee of the executive of unions of both the State and local government workers has been constituted to be headed by the Secretary to the State Government and approved by the Governor with the mandate of working out the modalities for the payment which is to commence by August this year.
