The federal Road Safety Corps, Adamawa state command has said it recorded a total of 118 road accidents and rescued 200 people within the 2023 under review.
The Sector Commander, Yahaya Sabo Adikwu who made this known to newsmen at the weekend, attributed most accidents to driver negligence, emphasizing that it’s a man-made issue rather than a natural one.
” It is hight time for drivers to see them self equal to the pilot because they do same job in a different means”said Adikwu.
Adikwu urged drivers to exercise caution, especially during the festive season, and to view themselves as responsible for their passengers’ safety, just like pilots.
He also encouraged passengers to speak up if drivers are reckless or speeding, as their lives are at risk.
” Any driver that didn’t reach is destination safely is not a real driver.
“Interestingly, Adamawa State recorded only 36 fatalities from road accidents in 2023, with the goal of reducing that number to zero in the coming year.
According to the World Health Organization, “human behavior is a leading cause of road accidents globally ” he stated.
