The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration through the Ministry of Works, has resumed work on the deplorable parts of Onitsha–Owerri Road.

The Nations News reports that the reinstatement works and intensified ongoing construction along the Onitsha–Owerri Road by the federal government, is to reduce suffering by the road users.

Investigation revealed that Onitsha–Owerri Road is a critical route connecting Anambra and Imo States.

The project marks another bold step in the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure Agenda, aimed at delivering durable, safe, and efficient road networks that enhance trade, mobility, and socio-economic development across Nigeria.

Speaking on the project, the Minister emphasized that the reinstatement works are part of the Ministry’s effort to restore failed sections of the road, improve surface quality, and ensure long-term durability using rigid pavement technology.

The Minister, Umahi alongside the senior special assistant to the president on Community Engagement South East, Chioma Nweze, contactors and prominent stakeholders of the SouthEast region toured the project site at the weekend.

The Onitsha–Owerri Road serves as a vital commercial artery linking the South-East’s major industrial and trading hubs.

It was further gathered that the federal government’s intervention is expected to significantly ease transportation challenges, reduce travel time, and boost economic activities for millions of commuters and businesses along the corridor.

Residents, transporters, and local traders have expressed appreciation for the renewed attention given to the road, describing the ongoing works as a long-awaited relief that will enhance connectivity and regional growth.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to quality supervision, strict adherence to standards, and timely project delivery in line with the Renewed Hope vision of transforming Nigeria’s infrastructure landscape.

Responding, the SSA on community engagement, S-East, Chioma Nweze, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of works, David Umahi for resuming works at the deplorable parts of the Onitsha–Owerri Road.
