Enugu govt. tasks Monarch to uphold transparent, inclusive leadership to foster peace, unity

The Enugu State Government has urged the newly recognized monarch of Ogui Nike Community, to uphold transparent and inclusive leadership that would foster peace, unity, and sustainable development within his community.

The government, however has formally presented  a Letter of Recognition and Staff of Office to Igwe Emmanuel Ngwu as the traditional ruler of Umunevo, Ogui Nike Autonomous Community in Enugu North Local Government Area.

The recognition was conveyed through the State Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs Enugu State, Mr. C.C Egumgbe.

In a statement sent by the Public relations officer ministry of Chieftaincy affairs Faustina Ngene, said that Egumgbe on behalf of Governor Peter  Mbah at the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs’ Conference Hall, New Secretariat Complex Enugu, presented the letter of recognition and staff of Office to Igwe Emmanuel Ngwu.

According to the letter, the Governor approved Igwe Ngwu’s recognition after due consideration of his selection by the community, in line with the provisions of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Law, Cap. 151, Revised Laws of Enugu State 2004. The recognition takes effect from January 19th 2026.

The letter further conveyed the Governor’s congratulations to the monarch and expressed confidence that Umunevo, Ogui Nike Autonomous Community would experience peace and harmony under his reign.

In his response, Igwe Emmanuel O. Ngwu expressed profound gratitude to the Enugu State Government for the honor and recognition. 

He pledged to collaborate with government authorities to ensure the maintenance of peace and stability in his community, while also assuring his people that he would justify the confidence and mandate bestowed upon him.

The event was witnessed by key officials of the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs, including the Permanent Secretary, Cordelia Nwonye; the Deputy Director, Chieftaincy Matters, Mrs. Ogochukwu Ozoagu; the Director of the Legal Unit, Barr. Esther Ani among others.
