Enugu Assembly Majority leader, Ani, 5 other LP lawmakers defects to PDP

The Majority leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly and five other members of the Labour Party, Johnson Ani, has formally announced their defection to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
The defectors, Mr. Ani and five other lawmakers announced their defection through in a latter that was forwarded to the speaker.
The Speaker while reading their defection letters to the house members announced their names as follows; Johnson Ani (majority leader) representing Enugu north constituency, Jude Ejike Eze (Chief Whip) representing Igbo-Eze north 2 constituency, Pius Ezugwu representing Nsukka East constituency.
Others includes Princess Obiajulu Ugwu (Deputy Chief Whip) representing Enugu South 2 constituency, Osita Eze representing Oji River Constituency, Hn Williams Amuka representing Igboetiti West.
In their various letter, the members noted that their reasons for defecting from the LP to PDP is due to existence of incessant crisis, irreconcilable division, factionalism among the labour party members both in the national, State and ward, stressing that their present in labour party will hinder the progress and socioeconomic growth of their constituents.
They pointed out that the party has turned into a State of perpetual discord with various factions engross with legal battle, thereby undermining it’s ability to effectively unite and serve the interest of the people.
Confirming that the letter emanated from each of them, noted that advancing into PDP will make them find a peaceful, united and conducive platform, to continue advancing the interest of their constituents and states.
The Deputy Chief Whip, Obiajulu Ugwu said that she wants to join her strength to the unity of the People’s Democratic party and support Governor Peter Mbah to move Enugu forward, noting that Mbah is not only a progressive Governor but also a practical Governor.
Pius Ezugwu representing Nsukka East Constituency, in his speech emphasized that his defection is fully supported by the people of his constituency. “I made a lot of promises to Nsukka East Constituency and I have carefully observed that the only way to achieve this promises is to join the PDP.
“If you are on social media you should have noticed that 95 percent of my constituents from ward chairman, local government executives to the least position in the labour party has decamped with me to where I am going”.
This decision is not an easy one. The movement today is at the interest of my constituent. The PDP has been in power since 1999 till today, so they have the platform and blueprint of the people of Ndi Enugu. Also to ensure that my constituent benefits to the maximum from the governance of Gov Peter Mba and to be part and parcel of the government”.
The Speaker, Uche Ugwu welcoming and accepting the defection letter by LP house members called on Mr clerk notifying him that he is duty bound to communicate the appropriate authorities.
The Chairman Labour party Enugu State, Casmir Agbo responding to the Journalists, concerning the Enugu LP House of Assembly members defection to People’s Democratic Party, said that he was coming back from convention, and that the party will meet to decide on that.
With these development of defection PDP is now 18 members in the house while Labour Party is 6 members.
