Ekweremadu’s wife returns to Nigeria after her UK prison encounter

The wife of the former deputy senate president Senator Ike Ekweremadu has returned to Nigeria following her ordeal in the United Kingdom.
A family source confirmed that Mrs Beatrice Ekweremadu arrived in Abuja on Tuesday evening.
It was gathered that her return has ignited a jubilant celebration in their home town Mpu in Aninri local government area of Enugu State where crowds gathered in large numbers to rejoice at her homecoming.
However, It can be recalled that Beatrice Ekweremadu was sentenced to prison alongside her husband and a medical doctor Obinna Obetta, under highly controversial circumstances involving an organ donor for their daughter Sonia who suffers Kidney problem.
After a six weeks trial and conviction at London central criminal court, the Ekweremadu and their doctor were found guilty of violating the modern slavery act on may 5, 2023.
Ekweremadu and Obeta were convicted of conspiracy to arrange for a young man identified as David Nnamani to travel to Britain where he was to be exploited for his kidney needed for their ailing daughter Sonia.
While Ike Ekweremadu received a sentence of 9years and 6months term from Justice Jeremy Johnson at the old bailey, his wife was sentenced to 4years and six months term, their intermediary Obinna Obetta was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
