‘Don’t withdraw over 300 dental students in Unical varsity – NADS tell Mgt.

By Ene Asuquo, Calabar
The Nigerian Association of Dental Students (NADS) has called on the management of the University of Calabar (Unical) to withdraw its recent directive asking over 300 dental students Studying dentistry to transfer to other schools due to over-admission.
The call was made by the Association President, University of Benin, Victory Ochuwa while reacting to the decision of the University of Calabar to send their Dental students away from Unical.
The statement dated July 11, 2025 with our ref: NAD/Exit/009 described the decision as “inhuman” and “totally unacceptable,” stressing that it would ruin the future of the affected students.
The association condemned the university’s decision which after offer admission to students and then ask them to leave after four to six years of training.
NADS argued that the students should not bear the consequences of the institution’s administrative failures where it claimed the number of students had over weight the facilities.
The association expressed concern about the impact on final-year students who had invested seven to eight years in their training on to be asked to quit the school and go and learn a trade.
NADS demands that unical should immediately suspend the directive asking students to transfer or abandon their dental education stressing that reversal of the decision will help to ease tension that is already piling up in the institution.
The students association also called on relevant bodies, including, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Nigerian Dental Association (NDA)
and the Federal Ministries of Health and Education to intervene and ensure that justice and compassion guide the way forward for the affected students.
