Dangote Refinery Denies Importing Finished PMS into Nigeria
By Yagana Ali Yola
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has issued a scathing rebuke of recent reports attributed to S&P Global, stating that the claims suggesting it imported finished Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into Nigeria are “inaccurate and deceptive”.
The refinery clarified that it only imports feed stocks and blending components, which undergo further processing before meeting regulated market specifications.
This is a standard global practice, especially among advanced refining hubs in Europe and Asia.
Dangote Refinery emphasized that the only gasoline supplied to the Nigerian market is its Euro 5 compliant PMS, which undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure high-quality fuel.
The refinery has significantly improved fuel quality in Nigeria and ended the nation’s reliance on low-grade, high-sulphur gasoline.
The company identified individuals promoting the misleading narrative, describing them as “unpatriotic and unscrupulous” individuals who cannot afford to see Nigeria stop imports.
“These individuals helped to milk the NNPC refineries through fraudulent financing transactions for refinery repairs, which ended up being squandered. They will soon have their day in court,” the company warned.
Dangote Refinery called on S&P Global and other industry stakeholders to adopt higher levels of technical accuracy, balance, and responsibility in their reporting, given the considerable influence such reports have on shaping international perceptions.
The refinery reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s energy security, environmental sustainability, and economic transformation through world-class refining operations.
Its clarification was acknowledged by the S&P Global forum in the UK, which recognized the refinery’s pivotal role in reshaping the global refining landscape.
