Cross River Assembly speaker, Ayambem impeached, accused of financial misappropriation

The speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA), Elvert Ayambem has been impeached by 17 out of 25 members of the Assembly
The member representing Akpabuyo State Constituency, Mr. Bassey Effiong, who addressed journalists on Wednesday at Transcorp Hotel Càlabar, described Ayambem as a mis-normal person.
“Ayambem abused the position of his office. He is so arrogant. He has no respect for colleagues every now and then.” Bassey stated.
Also speaking ,member representing Etung state constituency, Kinsley Ntui, who doubles as Special Adviser to the Speaker on House Rules, accused the embattled speaker of incompetence, financial misappropriation and violation of house rules.
“He is a tyrant,the Robert Mugabe of Cross River State House of Assembly. He can’t be greater than the people who made him.
“The public should note that he was removed by the house members.Ntui added.
In his remarks, member representing Bekwarra state constituency,Charles Omang, said “Seventeen of us here present sat and reviewed activities of Cross River State House of Assembly. We decided to pass a vote of No confidence against Ayambem.
The aggrieved members also accused the speaker of misappropriating N404m meant for payment of Assembly NEPA bill and other house issues, allegations which they claimed warranted thier action.
“Unparliamentary way of conducting proceedings , appointment of members to move or second motion rather than allowing interested membets to raise their hands”. The lawmakers maintained.
