Assassinated community leader, Okoye, buried amidst cries, wailing in Anambra

The remains of the alleged assassinated President General, of Ogidi Union Nigeria, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, late Ikwuka Okoye, have been committed to mother earth in his Abor village amidst cries and wailings by relations, in-laws, friends and well wishers.

Recall that the deceased was reportedly assassinated alongside a woman relation identified as Onuigbo, in the evening of Friday 6 February 2026 in a cult related attack at Ebenezer Anglican Church field Uru Ogidi, while preparing for the burial ceremony of his late mother.

According to investigation, the suspected cultists stormed  the scene of the incident (Ebenezer  field), venue of the mother’s burial ceremony, and repeatedly shot him at close range and he died on the spot, just one week to the burial ceremony of his late mother.

The late Okoye it was gathered came to perfect arrangements for the burial ceremony of his mother in the evening of the fateful day when the men of the underworld came calling  and shot him and Onuigbo dead while still in his car.

They disappeared into the thin air on completion of their mission thereby throwing the community into mourning mood, it was further gathered.

Condemning the killing, the councillor representing Ogidi ward 2, urged the security operatives to ensure the arrest of the culprits to face justice adding that the loss of Okoye is a big blow to the  entire Ogidi community 

He described the late PG as a peace maker who was interested in better welfare for his people, pointing out that he contributed immensely to  the infrastructural development of the community.

Also in his reaction, the President General of Ogidi International Building Materials Market, Jude Nwankwo, lamented the untimely death of the PG and urged the police to do the needful by arresting and prosecuting the killers of the PG.

He condemned in strong terms the alleged assassination adding that his death was unexpected and pleaded that the arrest will serve as deterrent to future offenders.
