APC sweeps Niger LG chairmanship election

The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has officially announced the results of the 2025 Local Government Council Chairmanship Elections with the ruling All Progressives Congress winning in all 25 local government councils. 

The State electoral  Commission confirmed that the elections were successfully conducted across all twenty-five Local Government Areas of the state.

In a press statement signed by Mohammed A. Liman, Commissioner for Operations, NSIEC stated that all Returning Officers have completed the collation and declaration of results in accordance with electoral laws and operational guidelines.

“After a thorough review, the Commission ratified the results, confirming the election of candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all Chairmanship positions”

The elected Chairmen include notable figures such as Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu of Agaie, Hon. Usman Manko Mohammed of Bida, and Dr. Mustapha M. Jibrin of Chanchaga, among others.

In addition to the Chairmanship results, the NSIEC reported a decisive victory for the APC in the Councillorship elections, securing 271 out of 274 available seats.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) managed to win two seats in Tafa Local Government and one seat in Rafi Local Government.

The NSIEC extended its congratulations to all elected Chairmen and Councilors, emphasizing the importance of transparency, accountability, and commitment to public service in the development of their respective Local Government Areas.

The Commission also announced that Certificates of Return will be formally presented to the elected officials, and stakeholders will receive notifications regarding the presentation.

The NSIEC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral processes.

It expressed gratitude to security agencies, observers, the media, political parties, and the electorate for their cooperation in ensuring a successful election.

The  credibility  of the Commission has been questioned before the election as the Chairman of the electoral body and  the Permanent member one and Head of Operation,  Muhammed Imam and Barrister liman were immediate past Chairman and  secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress,  APC  party in Niger State.
