No fewer than 30 Anglican faithful have been bestowed as Knights of St. Christopher by the Anglican Bishop of Ihiala Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Israel Okoye, at St Stephen Anglican Church, Ihiala, Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State.
Speaking during the investiture, Bishop Okoye lamented that some people believe Knights to be cultist and prayed God to forgive them for they know not what they are saying.
“May God forgive those saying that those who belong to knighthood are members of secret cults. A knight must be a sacrificial lamb, a face defender and must stand for the church, must be steadfast on upholding the word of God.
“Must be self discipline when you come to the public, your character must be different, among others,” he admonished the the new knights.
“Today our Lord promoted us. Your being the first set to be the knight is a big thing to us. To be a knight demands people chosen by God as Christians,” he further stated.
After their oath of allegiance the new knights pledged to be of good behaviour and avoid acts capable of tarnishing their image even as they pledged to be fishers of men for God.
Expressing satisfaction, some of the new Knights commended the Bishop for finding them worthy to be bestowed as Knights of St Christopher pledging not to disappoint in their missionary work
Among those that expressed satisfaction included, Donald Chidi Amangbo who built a church at St Silas, Ihiala, High Chief Chibuzor Mbagwu, who said he is one of the chosen.
He stated that it is not easy to be chosen as a knight and attributed it to his missionary work in the church even as he described the Bishop as a man of honour and integrity.
Others were Nnanyelugo Asika from chapel of Holy Spirit, Stephen Nnawal, who disclosed that his late father was a knight and sir Emma Onyejekwe, who said that prior to their being bestowed as Knights that he does not keep late hours.
