Again, suspected herders invade 4 LGAs,  kill 23 in Benue

Suspected Fulani herdsmen, on Saturday reportedly launched fresh coordinated attacks on some communities in four Local Government Areas of Benue state including Guma, Logo, Ukum and Kwande, killing 23 persons.

The Nations News Nigeria  reports that many residents have fled their communities as the attacks have become a daily occurrence.

It was further learnt that while nine persons were killed in Logo LGA, eight others were killed in Ukum, with three persons also killed in Guma and Kwande respectively.

Ray Anumve who hails from Kwande LGA told newsmen in Makurdi, that the fresh attacks were carried out by armed herdsmen and suspected Jukun Militants who unleashed mayhem on Turan Communities on May 9, 2025.

According to him, the coordinated brutal attacks were carried out by armed Fulani herdsmen and suspected Jukun-speaking assailants across multiple locations in Turan, Kwande LGA of Benue State, resulting in deaths, injuries, and displacement. 

He said the assailants spoke Fulfulde and Jukun languages.

He said Mbaav Clan, Mbadura Council Ward, ear Tse Yande compound, Gusa crossing, River Katsina-Ala was attacked as the assailants crossed the river and attacked farmers who were returning from their farms.

He said Mr. Agwei, a farmer was killed while his brother and son were left with varying degrees of injury and are both receiving treatment at a clinic in Jato-Aka.

Also confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Information and culture, Mr. Matthew Abo, said  eight farmers were killed this morning(Saturday)on their way to the farm.

Abo who who hailed from Ukum local government area, maintained that,he could not ascertain those responsible for today’s killing in Ukum because there had been communal clashes there between Tiv and Jukun.

The Benue State Command Police Public Relations Officer CSP Catherine Anene was not able to confirm the development as at the time of filing this report as she could not respond to text or calls.
